About The Legacy Event Center

Possibilities Abound

The YWCA of Lubbock's beautifully refurbished historic facility in the heart of Lubbock offers an ideal location for a great variety of events: ceremonies such as weddings and memorials; entertainment such as musical and theatrical productions, galas, quinceanaras, and receptions; business events such as meetings, seminars, conventions, and conferences; and private parties large and small.

The Legacy also is a stop on the monthly First Friday Art Trail, a community initiative that supports artists and expands art throughout Lubbock, and hosts a number of Texas Tech School of Music concerts and productions. View our Events/News page for these and other upcoming events.

The YWCA and The Legacy

The Legacy Event Center has a rich history in Lubbock. As the facility for the First Presbyterian Church from the time it was built until 2008, it hosted hundreds of events that played a central role in the ministry, culture, and vibrancy of Lubbock.

The YWCA purchased the building in May 2006 as the congregation made plans to move into a new facility in south Lubbock. In the summer of 2008, the YWCA began a significant project of restoring the building with two goals: first, to preserve the architectural and social character that reflects our city's heritage and pioneer spirit; and second, to provide a beautiful setting for special events and a comfortable setting for business meetings and training.

The project kicked off at a June luncheon. A few short months later, on October 2, the YWCA unveiled the first phase of renovations at the "Prelude to a Legacy." The grand opening concert featured outstanding performances by the Texas Tech School of Music and the sanctuary’s superior acoustics. Afterward, guests mingled while enjoying a scrumptious champagne and dessert buffet elegantly and generously provided by the Friends of the YWCA and Women of Excellence.

In the fall of 2009, the YWCA dedicated the sanctuary as Talkington Hall and the adjacent bridal area as Margaret's Bridal Suite in honor of Margaret and J.T. Talkington. Read more about this event at "The Dedication of Talkington Hall" and other articles about the facility at Events/News.
